Merchant's Gate is the vision of A. Scott Ward. Scott is a native of the upstate of South Carolina and after many years of living abroad, is now proud and honored to call Pendleton home. Unlike most developments, Merchant's Gate has been patterned after some of the most beloved places in the world but always with special emphasis on Southern Architecture and design.

Much of the Merchant's Gate development has been guided by the
tenets of New Urbanism. New Urbanism is a development philosophy
which offers an alternative to suburban sprawl by providing housing,
public spaces, shopping, work and recreation within a 10-minute
walking distance. This philosophy seeks to rebuild the core city
neighborhoods with housing clustered near commercial service areas.

The 13 acres of Merchant's Gate are a perfect setting for a residential
neighborhood composed of town homes aned mixed lot sizes that is geared
to those who wish to walk to the library, restaurants, bakery, shopping,
repose on the Town Square, or even catch an evening at the theatre.

By carefully crafting building and architectural covenants, emphasis will be
